WORKING FOR BC FAMILIES

Principle:

WE NEED TO RECOGNIZE FAMILIES ARE THE BACKBONE OF THIS PROVINCE, BY ENSURING THAT THEY ARE IN THE BEST POSITION POSSIBLE TO THRIVE IN EVERY AREA OF BC

Policy:

It is time to create better strategies to help families get ahead

Plan: Families across the country, and indeed the continent, are struggling to get ahead and do the best they can for their children. My strategy includes increasing the minimum wage – recognizing that it needs to be done in a consultative way to ensure we stage any increases to help our small businesses adapt. It is important that we ensure we don’t harm the very people we’re trying to assist by discouraging hiring opportunities.

Plan: Helping families get ahead also involves ensuring that we maintain a low tax environment, in order to encourage job-creating investment while allowing families to keep more money in their pockets.

Policy:

We need to invest in the next generation by ensuring British Columbians have good childcare choices

Plan: Jessica and I know, firsthand, that parents with young families want seamless childcare. So I want to talk to British Columbians about how we do that and whether, for instance, our schools could provide safe and family-friendly locations for before and after school daycare. In this way, we could help parents access seamless childcare options in this province by using our existing school infrastructure in a way that provides options for parents to access services from 7am to 7pm.
